The Plantain Broadleaf (Plantago major) is a plant belonging to the plantain family (Plantaginaceae) and varies in size from 10 to 50 cm. It forms a dense leaf rosette that is resistant to foot traffic, which is why it is often considered a weed. This plant species is common in gardens, along roads and paths, and is sometimes derisively called the "white man's footprint". Nevertheless, there is a cultivated variety known as Plantago major 'Rosularis'.

The flowers grow in a spike that is cylindrical and can reach a length of 10-15 cm. They bloom from May to November and produce capsules of 2-5 mm in size. Each fruit contains four or more dark brown seeds. The leaves, which are broadly elliptic or ovoid in shape, form a compact leaf rosette and are sparsely hairy or smooth. The petioles are quite long and strongly ribbed.

The plantain is often used to treat itching and nettle bites by rubbing the leaf on the affected skin.
