The importance of good nutrition and supplementation

Good nutrition not only provides the necessary fuels, which the body needs for the production of energy and body heat. Good nutrition also contains all kinds of molecules that our body uses directly or indirectly in all kinds of processes such as regulation, defense, recovery processes and many other processes.

The body system is a complex whole. Often other names used for the body system are biological system or organism. When the body system functions well, we feel good, energetic and pleasant. The body can defend itself well against pathogens and other problems. The body is well able to recover quickly after exercise, illness and injury. This is referred to as optimal homeostasis. The body then has the right balance and ability to maintain the balance of all body processes and mechanisms.

But many people today do not have a properly functioning body system. It no longer works optimally. As a result, people are more susceptible to infections or have to deal with ailing health, which often results in chronic conditions. People often do not have enough energy, are tired and are therefore unable to participate normally in normal life.

All molecules used by the body must be obtained from food. It is therefore essential that one consumes high-quality food in order to provide the body with the right building blocks. It is also important to eat as diverse and varied as possible to ensure that you also get these nutrients. Many nutrients work together and therefore they are only optimally effective in combination.

It is difficult to get high quality food these days. Many foods have already had one or more processes before we consume them. It contains many nutrients of insufficient quality. This is partly due to changing modern agricultural and industrial production methods and the greater need for various nutrients.

This need has increased because our body is exposed to toxic external influences every day. Think of pesticides including pesticides, radiation, volatile substances, etc. Due to the production methods of our food, it also contains substances that do not belong there, such as E numbers and preservatives, which is also harmful to our body.

In addition, the levels of nutrients, vitamins and minerals in food, such as vegetables and fruit, have also decreased drastically in recent years. As a result, people can no longer be optimally healthy without daily supplementation of these nutrients. Many contemporary diseases in the western world are due to this.

Due to the lack of good and enough nutrients, this can therefore lead to serious illnesses or that people have to deal with deficiency diseases. One speaks of “absolute deficits” and “relative deficits”. An absolute deficiency is when you don't get enough of a nutrient to prevent a deficiency disease. We speak of a relative deficiency when less of a nutrient is taken in order to achieve and maintain the best possible health.

As mentioned earlier, nowadays it has actually become impossible to achieve optimal health without supplementation. One has to look at which nutrients are deficient or which are not being taken in enough. It is therefore necessary to look for "minimum dosage" and an "optimal dosage", which usually differs from person to person.

A minimum dosage is the amount of a nutrient/micronutrient that must be taken daily to avoid an absolute deficiency. On the other hand, there is the optimal dosage. This is the amount of a nutrient/micronutrient that must be taken daily to avoid a relative deficiency.

An optimal dosage depends on various factors and, as mentioned, differs from person to person. One of the factors is what one is already consuming and the amount. But the consumption of these nutrients in the body also plays a role in this.

It is therefore important to strive for an optimal balance of nutrients/micronutrients in order to achieve the best possible health gain. It is therefore essential to strive for maximum effectiveness of these nutrients.
